From Our President/CEO
June D. Heston

JuneSix months have passed since I arrived here at Vermont Family Network (VFN) and a very busy six months at that! Everything from the Challenges for Change initiative to creating a new look for Vermont Family Network have made my first few months very exciting—albeit exhausting.

Vermont Family Network has been through a number of transitions in the last two years. Now that the merger of Parent to Parent and Vermont Parent Information Center is behind us, we are moving forward and gaining momentum doing what we do best…serving children and families in Vermont. Our 2010 VFN Conference was a testament to exactly that. Nearly 300 parents, family members, professionals and community partners gathered in May to collaborate on ways to “Access the Future.” Forty-seven presenters and over forty exhibitors shared their expertise, information, and support with attendees. Thank you to everyone who made this event such a success.

As I mentioned, we are creating a new look. VFN’s new logo, seen here, was the result of many ideas and a great deal of input from staff. We were fortunate to have the guidance of Chris Reck from Direct Design in determining a new look for our organization, a look that resonates with our family-centered mission. Chris and his staff donated their services and led the way with some creative and exciting ideas along with a number of other designers. In the end, the graphic which most captured who we are as an organization was created by a staff person. We also need a name for VFN's newsletter, you can email us with your ideas: info @ vtfn.org.

In addition, we are working on improving a number of systems, including a new website (stay tuned!) and database, to ensure that families receive information and assistance in the most efficient, effective way possible while fulfilling our mission to provide support to all children and families, with a focus on children with special needs, to promote better health, education and well being.

Join us in celebrating these accomplishments at our Open House on September 30, 2010. Meet the staff and board members; and tour our recently renovated office in Williston. Refreshments too! We’d love to see you!

Vermont Family Network is a new organization with a strong history of providing support, information, and advocacy for all families. Your commitment of time, talent, and treasures continues to make all the difference in our future and the future of the children and families we serve. Thank you for making a difference!

Sincerely,
June D. Heston, President/CEO
